P athing, or mapping, refers to the sequence of stitches in the design, from start to finish. This is an important process because if the design is not embroidered in the correct sequence, there may be unwanted gaps and uneven text. This process is also a factor on how long the design will be running on the machine during embroidery process. A smoother design made in a shorter time costs less.



The digitizer then assigns stitch types to sections of the design. These will be based on what stitches will best bring out the beauty of the artwork. The underlay stitches will be added first. The underlay stitches should be done correctly because it helps the other remaining stitches have a smooth surface to embroider on. It also adds density to the design. When not done correctly, the stitches will sink into the fabric or allow the shirt fabric to show through the design.



There are only three basic stitch types. These are run, satin, and fill stitches. There are many variations of these stitch types, however. The digitizer will have to decide what variation of the stitch to use, along with the direction of the stitch, where it should start and where it should stop. The digitizer also has to consider the type of fabric that the design will be embroidered on and make more adjustments. There are types or fabrics that may only ruin the design. A logo made for denim, for instance, does not look good when embroidered on fabrics where the stitches tend to sink into the fabric.



There is also what we call the “push and pull” in embroidery digitizing. While being embroidered, a design may move and may cause some of the stitches to shift. This happens when using bulky and rough fabrics, long stitches, large areas of thread and a tight bobbin thread. Increase Your Average Check With One Cup of Joe?

The biggest challenge restauranteurs face is what I like to refer to as the "Double Whammy". In today's economy, people are not only eating out less but are eating less when they do elect to dine out. People are skipping appetizers, skipping dessert, and splitting meals. How is a restaurant owner to survive under these circumstances?



This solution actually begins at the end - the end of the meal that is. One of my biggest pet peeves in life is after having enjoyed a great meal; I am asked if I want dessert. Worse yet, when the server says "you are probably all too full for dessert, huh"? This is tantamount to a sales person saying "you wouldn't want to buy anything from me today, would you"? What this says to me is that the server is more interested in turning the table than on increasing the size of his or her gratuity through increased sales.



What if I told you that you could increase your average check by $10 - $20 by merely selling on e extra cup of coffee? Would you be interested? I would bet that you would.



Here is how it works:



At the end of the meal, the server is trained to approach the table with a smile and an enthusiastic "Can I interest you in a great tasting cup of our freshly roasted coffee"? His or her head is nodding at the same time.



Experience tells me that if someone at the table orders a cup of coffee, at least one other will follow suit. It almost always happens that way. If you have enjoyed a nice dinner, and you order a cup of coffee, dessert is sure to follow. Let's say each cup of coffee sells between $2.50 and $3.00.



We have all seen the "Can I bring one dessert and several forks?" approach. Here is my favorite:



The server approaches the table with a small 5" plate with a small piece of three or four desserts on the plate. Each dessert has a frill pick in it. The tag line is "Here are a couple of ou r great tasting desserts. Now which one can I bring you?" The server is smiling and nodding the entire conversation. If the group has ordered a couple of cups of coffee, at least 1-2 desserts will be sold. Desserts easily sell between $4 and $6.



If the server is really good, there is an opportunity for an after dinner drink. After dinner drinks can easily sell for $8 - $10.



Ok, let's do the math. 2 cups of coffee = $5.00. Two desserts = $10. One after dinner drink = $9. Conservatively speaking, we have just increased the average check by $24 by just selling one more cup of coffee. If you were just able to accomplish this at 10 tables per night, revenues could increase by $240 per night, $1680 per week, $6,720 per month, and so on.

Our job is not done, however. The real work to be done is in the training of the wait staff. They honestly do not care about average check or selling more unless they can see a direct correlation to their pocket book. On that extra $24 check, they would receive an additional $4.80 in gratuity if the rate were 20%. At 10 tables per night, they would take home an additional $48 and $240 per week if they worked a 5 day shift. That's a lot of cash to bring in for just selling one cup of coffee.



To get this rolling, I recommend starting with an incentive for the wait staff. Hit your foodservice distributor up for a case of coffee or dessert to kick this off to cover costs. If the server sells one cup of coffee, they get 25 cents. If they sell one dessert, they get 25 cents. If they sell both, they get $1.00. Give prizes for the top performers. I don't think you'll have a problem with coffee sales with a promotion like this.



There is one other thing, however. Enjoy the additional profitability of your restaurant!

In fact, most likely your principle balance will only decrease slightly and the rest of your minimum payment is going to pay interest rates. Make sure you are paying more than your minimum monthly payment in order to get out of debt quicker.

Do you have high interest rates on your credit cards? If so, call your credit card company and ask for a lower rate. Tell them you've received an offer in the mail from a particular bank that is offering you a lower rate. Ask that they give you a competitive offer in order to stay in business with them.

Make sure your credit cards do not charge you an annual fee. If you are a good customer, who makes their payments regularly and on time, call and ask to have this fee waived. If you part of special reward programs, the company may not waive this fee. However, if you are an ordinary customer with no rewards program, you may very well have this fee waived just by asking.

Avoid late fees. Late fees are a way many credit card increase their revenue. If you are expecting to be late on a payment, call and ask for a grace period. Ask that your phone conversation is documented. A sk for the sales representative's name and badge ID so that you can document the conversation as well. If you are already late on your payment, but have ordinarily been a good customer call and ask for the fee to be waived.

If you want to finance the life you crave without the burden of debt, it may take time, but it is possible. All you have to do is start! Start being honest with yourself. Start cutting your costs, and understand the debt that you already owe.

Consumers Can Dispute Credit Reports with Creditors

The FTC recently te stified before Congress and stated that starting July 1st, 2010, consumers will have a right to dispute credit reports directly with the creditor, also called a "furnisher" because they furnish the data to the credit reporting companies. In the past, the FTC only required consumer credit reporting companies (Experian, Equifax and TransUnion) to handle credit report disputes (they would in turn communicate with the furnisher directly).

This is a substantial change, at least on paper, to one of the biggest areas of consumer credit problems and identity theft. How it will work in practice, and whether it will improve things for consumers, remains to be seen.

Javelin released their 2010 Identity Fraud Survey Report. It's a mixture of positive and negative news. Identity fraud still grew by 12% in 2009, although less quickly th an in 2008 (22%). However, cases are also getting reported and resolved more quickly. Javelin reports 11.1 million U.S. adults were victims in 2009 and the total fraud amount increased by 12.5 % to $54 billion. Average fraud resolution time dropped 30% to 21 hours, and nearly half of the victims file police reports, resulting in double the reported arrests, triple the prosecutions, and double the percentage of convictions in 2009.

•The timing for the task is urgent. For example, your client needs a report in time for his or her meeting right after lunch. Instead of working the report into your other and less important tasks, reorganize your s chedule and make the report your priority. As soon as you complete the report and e-mail it to your client, you can get back to your other action items and continue on with your day.

Sometimes, the issue is not so much figuring out how to arrange your tasks to your best advantage, but rather setting reasonable time aside to accomplish each one. To an extent, this can be forgiven when you are first taking on a new task. After all, you've never done it before and must rely on second-hand information to estimate the time you will need to do a good job. But failing to set reasonable time limits for tasks you have done for some time can make a good day into a bad day in no time at all.

The four pillars of the Maastricht Convergence Criteria are as follows: No more than 1.5 percent inflation over the baseline; annual government deficit can't be more than 3 percent of GDP; and total government debt not more than 60 percent; must be part of the Exchange Rate Mechanism of the European Monetary System; and long term interest rates can't be more than 2 percent above baseline.

Even though there are administrative and regulatory arms of the European Union, there is little in the way of actu al fiscal policy.
